The application of diffraction tomography to cross-hole seismic data

چکیده
Previously published equations for diffraction tomography do not solve the “two and one-half dimensional problem” (point source illumination of two-dimensional geology) if sources and receivers are confined to linear arrays. In spite of this lack of a formal solution, useful images can be formed by the application of twodimensional formulas to such problems. The estimation of difference fields. of crucial importance in diffraction tomography, reduces to the problem of estimating the source function. Using assumptions about the consistency of the source behavior, we extract the source function in a statistical fashion from crosshole data. Using this technique, the difference fields are computed directly from the recorded wave fields for two expmimcnnfs anddiffraction tomographicimages arpcobtained. In the first experiment, the data are generated using a two-dimensional finite-diflerence modeling algorithm. In the second, a physical scale model of a crosshole experiment is performed in an ultrasonic modeling tank. Images are obtained within both the first Born and Rytov’s approximation. Our results indicate that Rytov’s approximation achieves good resolution of the lower wavenumber components of the object, whereas the first Born approximation is more successful where the object is discontinuous.

Synchrosqueezing-based Transform and its Application in Seismic Data Analysis
Seismic waves are non-stationary due to its propagation through the earth. Time-frequency transforms are suitable tools for analyzing non-stationary seismic signals. Spectral decomposition can reveal the non-stationary characteristics which cannot be easily observed in the time or frequency representation alone. Various types of spectral decomposition methods have been introduced by some resear...
متن کاملSeismic Tomography
The inversion of seismic travel-time data for radially varying media was initially investigated by Herglotz, Wiechert, and Bateman (the HWB method) in the early part of the 20th century [1]. Tomographic inversions for laterally varying media began in seismology starting in the 1970's. This included early work by Aki, Christoffersson, and Husebye who developed an inversion technique for estimati...

متن کاملVelocity Inversion with an Iterative Normal Incidence Point (NIP) Wave Tomography with Model-Based Common Diffraction Surface (CDS) Stack
Normal Incidence Point (NIP) wave tomography inversion has been recently developed to generate a velocity model using Common Reflection Surface (CRS) attributes, which is called the kinematic wavefield attribute. In this paper, we propose to use the model based Common Diffraction Surface (CDS) stack method attributes instead of data driven Common Reflection Surface attributes as an input data p...
متن کاملImproving seismic image in complex structures by new solving strategies in the CO-CRS and the CO-CDS methods
Conventional seismic imaging possesses problem in exposing structural detail in complex geological media. Nevertheless, some recently introduced methods reduce this ambiguity to some extent, by using data based imaging operator or emancipation from the macro-velocity model. The zero offset common reflection surface (ZO-CRS) stack method is a velocity independent imaging technique which is frequ...
